Sie enthalten praktisch keine Stärke, weisen jedoch einen hohen Gehalt an Protein und Fettstoffen auf. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit ist geboten bei der Einreihung von ausgelösten Hülsenfrüchten, die unter der Bezeichnung „green soja beans“ oder „green beans“ gehandelt werden. Hierbei handelt es sich vielfach nicht um Sojabohnen, sondern um Bohnen, die zu Position 0713 gehören.

Erläuterungen zum Harmonisierten System (HS) Sojabohnen sind ein sehr wichtiger Ausgangsstoff für pflanzliches Öl. Die hierher gehörenden Sojabohnen können zur Entbitterung mit Wärme behandelt sein (siehe Allgemeines). Nicht zu dieser Position gehören dagegen geröstete Sojabohnen, die als Kaffeemittel verwendet werden (Position 2101). Als „Saatgut von Sojabohnen“ im Sinne der Unterposition 1201 10 gilt nur solches, das von den zuständigen nationalen Behörden als Saatgut anerkannt ist
