Erläuterungen zum Harmonisierten System (HS) Zu dieser Position gehört feuerpoliertes Glas in Form von Platten oder Tafeln. Zu seiner Herstellung werden die Rohstoffe in einem Schmelzofen geschmolzen. Die geschmolzene Glasmasse wird, nachdem es den Schmelzofen verlassen hat, auf ein „floatbad“ aus geschmolzenem Metall gegossen. Auf dem Floatbad nimmt die Glasmasse die Glätte eines flüssigkeitsgefüllten Beckens an und behält später eine spiegelglatte Oberfläche. Bevor die Glasmasse das Ende dieses Bades erreicht, wird sie auf eine Temperatur abgekühlt, bei der die Glasmasse fest genug ist, um sie ohne Prägung oder Verzerrung auf Rollen zu führen. Nach dem Floatbad durchläuft das Glas einen Kühlkanal, an dessen Ende das Glas abgekühlt ist und geschnitten werden kann.
