Η πλάκα κατασκευάζεται με την τοποθέτηση μαζί, πολλών στρωμάτων χαρτιού εμποτισμένων με ρητίνη, τα οποία συμπιέζονται μεταξύ τους σε υψηλή θερμοκρασία, ούτως ώστε να δημιουργηθεί μία συμπαγής πλάκα. Το προϊόν αποτελείται από 65,5% χαρτί, 34% φαινολικές και αμινικές ρητίνες και 0,5% άλλα προσθετικά. Για την κατασκευή του χρησιμοποιούνται διάφορα είδη χαρτιού όπως τα décor, barrier και kraft. Τα χαρτιά décor και barrier εμποτίζονται με ρητίνη μελανίνης και αποτελούν την εξωτερική στρώση του προϊόντος ενώ το χαρτί kraft εμποτίζεται με φαινολική ρητίνη και αποτελεί τον πυρήνα του.
